This dog is a Jack Russell Terrier. I have one & that is exactly what they do! This little dog was NOT harmed in any way! My dog does the exact same thing even when he's happy! This is common in these types of dogs. So, all you ""animal activists" need to stop whining & find some REAL animal cruelty to complain about! I think the commercial is brillant!
Great work BISCUIT!

I absolutely adored the dog singing in the car and though fairly certain the dog wasn't harmed or indeed terrified (as he appears to be), I still found the "indoor" element of this advert very disturbing as a dog person and a dog lover. In a sense it didn't matter to me that this particular dog may have been acting, there are hundreds of thousands of dogs, and indeed other animals, who are mistreated on a regular basis and I associated the advert, and VW Polo, with such mistreament after a while. I wish VW had decided to remove the "indoor" part of the advert and simply extend the joyous "singing" part!

Anyone with a keen eye will be able to spot the difference between live action and CGI, and I believe the mannerisms of the shaking dog were not produced by CGI, but in fact it is actual footage of a rather terrified looking creature. The tail between the legs, the trembling, the downward droop of the head, all indicators of a frightened dog. I can be sure that trainers can produce all kinds of emotional responses in dogs through training, but you can't just say "Dog, look frightened" without at first giving it a stimulus to produce that, even if it is associated with something later, like a command or a sound. Whether a Pavlovian response or not, I do feel uncomfortable at the fact the dog looks like it has been made to adopt a frightened, submissive stance. I have heard this has since been taken off air, and I guess (I don't know how much is known) that this may be because the methods used were proven to be unkind to the dog. I may be wrong, but I'm just positing my opinion here.
